During January 2019, through 22 surveys addressed to the concheros, the perception and ecological knowledge in Puerto del Morro was analyzed to characterize the resource and the fishery, determine if there is influence of the Protected Area (PA) on the extraction of the resource, and the expectations of the concheros on the Mangrove Concessions (CM). Among the main results, it was found that more than 60% perceive low population density in all the extraction sites, likewise 60% pointed to capture medium sized shells and although the catch remains stable, there is strong fishing pressure on the resource. Twenty-four fishing sites associated with the landing port were identified, and around 35% of the respondents indicated Lagarto and Saibó as their main fishing sites, with respect to the catches reported an average of 226 conchas.conchero-1.day- pesca-1 for the period before the protected area and 116 conchas.conchero-1.day-pesca-1 for the current catch. It was determined that the PA has a neutral influence on the fishery and that the shellfish associated with the fishing cooperatives have good expectations of the MC, but not the shellfish known as independent, which showed a generalized ignorance of the subject.
